Recognizing the strong need for healthcare solutions within the community, GCACH launched its Community Health Worker (CHW) program in July 2021. CHWs are seen as trusted professionals that connect people to healthcare systems based on the care they need. This program was designed to support organizations willing to employ and integrate CHWs into their care teams and offer developmental opportunities that lead to professional growth.
GCACH welcomes its partners, Providence St. Mary Medical Center and Walla Walla Fire Department, to present on how they embed the “community” into the way they provide care. Recognizing that community-based organizations and staffing roles are essential for a healthier future by developing trust along with personal, healing relationships.
“The difference the community health workers have made in people’s lives so quickly is heartwarming. I wish we had started this program decades ago,” says Becky Betts of Providence St. Mary Medical Center.
